Water Quality Coordination

  • Provide day-to-day support to regional bodies
  • Provide advice and assistance on regional WQ issues
  • Coordinate WQ projects between government, RB’s and CG’s
  • Develop event based monitoring programs in each of the NAP regions

Training and Support

To provide extension services to the regions.

The Water Quality program provides technical support on water quality monitoring, as well as training on the use and application of various products.

WORKSHOP: Water Quality Sampling and Analysis - Dan Wruck (QHSS)

This two day workshop is aimed at community groups, local government and agency staff, and others who are involved in the measurement of physical and nutrient parameters.

The workshop objectives include:

  • Review of sampling practices (focus on nutrients)
  • Identify and quantify contamination issues
  • Understand QA/QC issues - to be applied
  • Review and compare field analysis kits - benchmarked against field lab analyses (please bring own kits)
  • Participant data to identify issues and calculate precision data in feedback session

Parameters to be reviewed/compared include:

  • Nutrients - Ammonia, Nitrate/Nitrite and phosphorus
  • Physical parameters - pH, Conductivity, Dissolved Oxygen, turbidity and temperature

The workshops will be presented by Dan Wruck of Queensland Health Scientific Services. Dan has extensive experience in water quality analysis testing. He performs proficiency testing for Australian and international laboratories and is a NATA assessor and advisor for NATA accreditation. Dan will be ably assisted by Tuyet Nguyen.

WORKSHOP: Applying Water Quality SIP resources to develop local water quality guidelines

In this one day workshop participants will learn how to apply computer-based tools to analyse and interpret water quality data against a range of guidelines. This will enable users to establish the technical basis for developing local water quality guidelines and calculating event-based loads.

The workshop will cover: 1) the context for setting guidelines 2) the basics of the reference, impact and proportional approaches for developing guidelines and targets; 3) loads calculation methods; and 4) the application of computer-based tools using these approaches.
